New chair appointed for ICOM and MEHNA’s Water Treatment Group

Monday 27th January 2025
The Industrial and Commercial Heating Equipment Association (ICOM) and Manufacturers of Equipment for Heat Networks Association (MEHNA) have announced the appointment of a new chair for their Water Treatment Group. Ian Roberts, Managing Director for ADEY Commercial, takes up the position from January 2025. He has a wealth of experience gained from over 30 years in the commercial heating industry.

Commenting on his appointment, Ian Roberts said: “With the current acceleration of change in our industry, I’m genuinely excited to be taking up this post.  New and alternative heating technologies are being adopted rapidly, and they all have one shared requirement: to have easy-to-administer and proven water treatment measures that ensure closed loop systems remain efficient and reliable.  I’m very much looking forward to representing MEHNA and ICOM to keep this topic at the top of the agenda in our industry.”

Steve McConnell, Director of ICOM, added: “Ian has extensive knowledge around the importance of water treatment and will be a great advocate for the Group, which is a joint venture between ICOM and MEHNA.”

Ian Roberts has a strong technical background, having gained diplomas in automotive and mechanical engineering and latterly in company direction.  His first roles included designing installations for some of the UK’s first commercial combined heat and power (CHP) systems.

He has sat at board level for a number of leading brands, and is no stranger to lobbying and driving industry change.  He was previously a member of chambers of commerce, lobbying government to affect positive industry considerations during the Green Deal.

ICOM is a not-for-profit trade association, representing and promoting the interests of the non-domestic heating sector.  Working closely with governments, professional bodies and associations at National and European level, ICOM’s work generates benefits for its members and is instrumental in the development of products and installation standards.  MEHNA represents the equipment manufacturers involved with all aspects of a heat network.
